Have you ever seen the Globe Theatre in London? Well, the Wandering Tower looks like it, but it’s made of wood and can be dismantled. It’s been refurbished and now it tours here and there. It is either rented by companies to stage plays or by festivals as a venue. Recently, it has been given a new function, a cabaret. The stage was made smaller, the bleachers were removed, a bar was added, and the Jardin aux Betteraves was born, echoing a play by Dubillard. It could spread its wings wherever it wanted because vagabonde is not just for decoration. We may forget it sometimes, but 50 tons of wood, metal and tarpaulin can be moved. It goes everywhere, nowhere. Miyazaki was probably right, spider legs were the most obvious solution. We opted for trucks instead, they roll better. It doesn’t just have one door, even if it’s magical, it has countless doors. The magic is in what makes it come alive. Classical or contemporary plays, concerts with sweet tunes or wickedly frenzied rock, those who inhabit it give it new life. It could come from here and there. A language with distant colours, a spicy breath or a monster accent with a hint of fondue, it is what you need it to be. The best thing is to come and find out what it will reveal about you.
